Upgrading Glibc?

The glibc website says that if I upgrade my kernel but I'm using glibc compiled with older kernel headers then it won't work right but I know people do that all the time and I heard that you can't upgrade glibc because all the programs are linking to it. Anyway here's the site... can someone set me streight please?

http://www.gnu.org/software/libc/FAQ.html#s-1.8

Quote:
{AJ,UD} The headers from the most recent Linux kernel should be used. The headers used while compiling the GNU C library and the kernel binary used when using the library do not need to match. The GNU C library runs without problems on kernels that are older than the kernel headers used. The other way round (compiling the GNU C library with old kernel headers and running on a recent kernel) does not necessarily work. For example you can't use new kernel features if you used old kernel headers to compile the GNU C library.

from what I understand, IF you upgrade glibc --you will need to upgrade the kernel headers first...........

example: my jukebox is Slackware 9..0..........and is using the 2.4.26 kernel-BUT I kept the 2.4.20 header files because glibc 2.3.1 is compiled against these headers...........
