upgraded wm --> no right-click

i recently ran an apt-get upgrade which upgraded (lots of stuff, including) sawfish from 0.37.2 to 0.38 (i'm, ah, trying to compile the latest version but ... i'm still working on that!)

i'm pretty sure i'd've noticed mouse problems immediately (if they occured right after the upgrade) ... i also installed the texinfo package for the makeinfo command.

and now, after a reboot, i've lost a lot of mouse function in sawfish. in applications, my mouse works fine, but on the desktop, i've lost the ability to right-click ... pointer doesn't change over windows' title-bars although double-clicking still works there.

i've tried altering xf86config to emulate 3 mouse buttons but no combo of mouse clicks causes anything more than a beep ...

any ideas?
thanks ...
