Upgrade to KDE Fedora 11 from HDD
Hi,
My purpose is upgrading my GNOME Fedora 10 into KDE Fedora 11 without using CD/DVD. I downloaded bin file from fedoraproject & do some search how to do this: 1. create new entry in GRUB list /etc/grub.conf 2. mount bin into some folder & copy initrd.img, vmlinuz, ... into /boot/isolinux 3. reboot But when i chose Upgrade (new item defined in grub.conf), it unsuccessfull upgrade. The machine become suspend, I guessed I cannot reach to my Fedora image. Anyone has any idea? :) |
do a fresh install
you might also want to download the KDE only install cd / dvd http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora-kde |

You don't understand my purpose! What happend if i want install/upgrade without cd/dvd/usb boot! Understand? |
in the yum repos there is a program called "preupgrade"
install it and run it BUT fedora 11 NOW uses ext4 for the /,/home,/usr for everything EXCEPT /boot - that is ext3 so a upgrade WILL NOT reformat your drive to ext4 but you might be using the default install settings for fedora and be using LVM . I do not use lvm so there might not be any problems . BUT BACK UP EVERYTHING FIRST - there is about a 50% to 80% success rate in using the "upgrade"option. What that means is a 20% to 50% FAIL rate |
