Upgrade RedHat-based Linux via SSH?
 

I have a server running a freakishly old TurboLinux, and I want to upgrade it to the new RedHat 9 or other RedHat-based OSes. Can I do it entirely by remote using SSH? If so how?

I would seriously doubt it... what you're proposing would entail at best a format and at worst a full repartition. You'd also be talking about scooting a full redhat distro down whatever connection you're ssh'ing through.

Well, I once did a SuSE FTP Install in four hours on said connection, but that was without using SSH, that was using a boot disk. Is it possible to upgrade (by replacing/upgrading files with RPM) as opposed to format/reinstall from scratch, like what is possible in the Setup Programs?

depending on how TurboLinux is put together, you MAY (and I stress MAY) be able to install the apt suite and use that to update the distro. This may fuck the entire thing totally though... lib incompatibilities, assumptions on kernel versions etc.

I'm wondering why you can't just get physical access to the thing. Is it up a mountain somehwhere? Not that it's any of my business :D
Anyhow, another option might be to repartition the drive into a couple of partitions, install redhat onto a spare one and copy all the configs and data across. You should be able to run the redhat text installer in pretty much any environment.
