Hello Felow Linux heads-?users~abusers-Reusers. Its been awhile since I last posted . Been using Puppy Linux alot lately - NIce Simple interface/Icons - great apps - ACTUALLY plays dvds!!!!!! And Rips them -with little or No problems.

Aside from that ,I booted up my old Suse 9.2 or is it 9.3 box Today-- I left it a few months back in the Condition that I wanted to up grade the XINE or Kaffeine Capabilities on it --so it cOULD play DVD,s .

Hence ,I wrote down a few lines of a Message I encountered when using YAST to update the software--- I use a USB drive to update the RPM,s -NOT an Internet Connection . here goes ;


Need Transcode Installed on Suse 9.2 =BUT,BUT,BUT(my writing).

Transcode needs

lame>=3.89-

libdvdread.so.2 {conflict libdvdplay requires libdvdread so.3 }

libdv.so2

libMagick.so.5

libmp3lame.so.0

libpng.so.2



So what would I need to correct this Situation ??????>

Unless I upgrade to a newer Distribution.

I really don,t want to format my Hard-drive since I have a good amount of stuff on it .

or
buy and install SUSE Enterprise Linux Desktop 11 sp3

That kinda sucks -EOL -End Of Life Support for Distros , why can,t they be upgradeable???? - so I have to spend more $$$ on a New distro!!!!! - sorry for the RANT!!!!!! -chili

OpenSUSE 13.1 is FREE
but it only has 18 months of support
But upgrading to 13.2 when it comes out is very easy

going from 13.1 to 13.2 is only typing two words
but
you will have to do a new clean install of 13.1 first
then import data from a backup
like
photos,music,videos,.....

system settings will NOT transfer over
kde4 and Gnome3 are now used
and not gnome2 and ked3

upgrading minor versions is VERY EASY

major versions were never supported
not even Microsoft can upgrade XP to windows8
you have to do a NEW install
