updating samba passwords with system passwords

Ok, what I am looking for is a way to have the Samba passwords update whenever the system passwords update. I'm not really sure what the best way to go about this is, but is there some way to sync up the two passwords so that whenever one changes it does the same thing to the other. I've been hunting around online for quite some time, and I haven't had any real success but I think there is something just out of my reach in my searches.

Thanks,
Michael

Setup a script that will run 'useradd' and 'smbpasswd -a'. You will have to enter the password 4 times, 2x for the user on the system and 2x for their samba password. That's an easy way of syncing up the passwords.

I like the idea, but I don't know if I can apply it. Sorry I should have mentioned it ealier, but we are using a special passwd command that ties itself in with LDAP to manage a bunch of systems. So I was hoping that I could go more along the lines of just using /etc/passwd and samba not having a passwd file at all. I read something about setting the "encrypt password =" value to "no" and that would have samba just use the /etc/passwd file. Though I couldn't find a lot of information on it. Would that mean the password wouldn't expire for samba so long as the user didn't let their system password expire. Or am I just way off the mark on this one?

Thanks for your input,
Michael

I believe setting that to 'no' will make all the passwords plaintext. I have never used that option with 'no' so I can't tell you what it does.

I hope this link might give you some clues:
