Updating Mozilla/Firefox so Hotmail will work

I am trying to update Mozilla Firefox 3.03 on my Hotmail site. I got the update in a .tar bz2 archive format with many (220) files.
Now that they're all there in the archive manager, where do I go from there? If I say "select all" to extract, it opens another window ("extract" window) asking where to extract to...this is where I get lost. I'm guessing it needs to be installed into the existing Mozilla/Firefox application folder...just not sure.

I am unable to use aspects of hotmail (like composing letters!) unless I upgrade Mozilla browser.
Is there another way to update without the archive?
Can settings be changed (through "tools" or "settings") to accommodate Hotmail?

First, what distribution are you using? Most will let you update your programs through your file manager, thus avoiding the problem of using that .tar.bz2 archive all together.

If not, I've downloaded and checked out that archive, and it should be pretty easy to install it if for some reason you can't update by any other means.

After reading those and trying it myself, it doesn't seem like upgrading to 3.0.3 is going to help. I'm using 3.0.3 and I'm having the same issue. (I typically use gmail to compose, so I hadn't noticed until now.)

Type about:config in a new URL and search for general.useragent.vendor and switch it to Firefox and Windows Live Hotmail will work.

Hope this helps
