updating from redhat 7.1 to 9.0


when i update will i lose any files?
i got 7.1 on a diff machine.. 9 on another box..
so i want to have 2 [rh9's]

You might as you never know when doing updates. Its best to backup before updating to be for sure, in any case or OS really.

all i have is a mail server + mail.. will that be lost?

well, ok...i'm answering:

you know... if you are planning well... and not a service or module is getting you a problem...

...well then ... there wouldn't be a need of a backup..cause you've got your files, yet...

but what if......
...the kernel makes problem
...you're gonna mount vfat with a wrong parameter that you'll give to mount...? you're whole data would be corrupted...

so....you would better backup your data
