Updating Fedora

Im running updates of fedora and some of them are erroring out due to software dependences. I go back and look for more packages with this problem but don't find any that fix the problem, Im trying to install the GCC update and it seems not to be working correctly. Im going to try and run a manual install of GCC but incase that dosen't work or i run into another problem with solving dependences what is the best way to fix these since up2date dosen't seem to give me too much information.

-PS also does anyone know what directory the GAIM emoticons are kept in i want to edit some of them.

thanks,

-Chris

Do not use up2date.

The best way of updating fedora is to get the yum.conf file from www.fedorafaq.org and use yum update.

If you like the gui of up2date, then the first thing you want to do is yum install yumex which gives an even better gui - very like synaptic does for apt.

Yum can provide a great deal of information. Like if you want to know what packages give a particular feature you can yum whatprovides <feature>. You can look up dependancies and do dummy runs as well.

up2date is getting so bad, I suspect that Red Hat is planning to scrap it for fedora altogether.
