Updated to 2.6, but DNS malfuntions

Recently, I updated my RH9 to kernel 2.6.
I downloaded the kernel, chose the modules I need and "make" it.
Everything seems fine after I reboot it (INIT 3).

but ,when I launch X window and try browsing, I find that the DNS service doesn't work.

I can access to the site I need through real IPs. However, if I enter U R L of the same site, the browser returns a "the documate is empty" (paraphrased) messege.

I tried NSLOOKUP.
When I enter the URL, "w w w. linuxquestions. o r g ", for example. It returns a messege:" Got bad packet: bad label type"
and a bunch of HEX code (which I can't understand...)

I tried to google the problem, but can't find a useful answer.

Can anyone help me ?
Is there some modules I missed when I complie the new kernel?
or something must be done in order to let the new kernel and network work well ?

Thx,

Do you have a nameserver set in your /etc/resolv.conf file?

I googled it ,and find out that it's not a problem, just a little bit annoying.
