Update $HOME/.bashrc for hduser

Hello,
I am trying to install Hadoop 1.0.3 and the instructions say that I need to update the .bashrc file of the user that will use the hadoop system. I have found the bashrc file in the admin account and then in the other user account. it seems to be the same. My question is is this actually the same file? or is there really a separate file for each user?

Hi,

they will be different files, but quite possibly be identical since they were most likely automatically copied from /etc/skel/.bashrc when the accounts were created.

Read the man bash > INVOCATION section for a description of what files it loads on startup.

In general, the /etc one is loaded first, then the one in the user's home directory, if it exists. So the first is used for global settings, and the latter for personal settings, which can overwrite the globals.
