Unresolved symbols in module loading

Hello -

I'm attempting to install a wireless PCI card on my athlon machine. The card worked under Redhat 7.2, but today I upgraded the system to redhat 9. Following the instructions on the CD (which worked well on another redhat 9 machine (PIII) I have) the module loading of the card fails with the following error;

[root@localhost net]# /sbin/insmod rt2400.o
rt2400.o: unresolved symbol dev_base_R24f66f3d
rt2400.o: unresolved symbol __netdev_watchdog_up_R19eface2
rt2400.o: unresolved symbol skb_over_panic_R95644aaa
rt2400.o: unresolved symbol alloc_skb_R57542abc
rt2400.o: unresolved symbol eth_type_trans_R84df3c10
rt2400.o: unresolved symbol netif_rx_R8d84bcda
rt2400.o: unresolved symbol softnet_data_R67d71c0a

I'm at a loss to see what is different between the two redhat 9 machines and any clues to fix what is missing would be appreciated.

It is due to the mismatch between kernel and ethernet driver, and usually solved by recompiling either of them.
But you can simply do as follows:
1. try modprobe rt2400.o
2. if 1 doesn't work, then
3. type commadn "uname -r " to see your kernel version(it may be 2.4.20-8)
4. copy the rt2400.o from another computer on which the same wireless PCI card is used.
5. modprobe the net rt2400.o

Thank you - a recompilation of the module fixed it.

I have installed Mandrake 7.1, 2.2x kernel(I know it is quite old, that is the challenge) on a Compaq laptop;256MB ,dual booting with WinXP Home Edition.
When booting ,loading sound modules sb.o andvia82cxxx.o failed .
I ran insmod sb.o (reported unresolved kernel symbols)
I ran insmod via82cxxx.o (reported unresolved kernel symbols)

I will try recompiling the sound modules.
