Unrar vs. Winrar

In linux I'm using unrar to "unrar" rar files. I have noticed that it is MUCH slower than Winrar in Windows. The same goes for using Par for Linux and for example SmartPar for windows. Does anyone have any comments on this, experiences? Am I doing something wrong?

Use hdparm to check (and set) your hard disks' DMA mode. If you're not running in DMA mode it will surely be slow as heck, especially with disk-intensive operations like RARing and PARing.

Thanks! I'm rather new to Linux. I had DMA in off. My disks are running at 133. Should I then put my DMA in linux to that?

Using hdparm -d1 /dev/hda (where /dev/hda is your hard drive) should enable DMA mode and be safe.

Ok! I think we could take this in swedish now but if anyone else is listening.
It works wonderfully now. I had to force the setting for a couple of my disks becauce it didnt find the right setting for them. Probably while they are ATA disks connected to a SATA raid through adapters (Abit thing).
Tack, tack!
