Unistalling SuSE 9.0 from Windows XP PC

About a few months ago I installed Suse 9.0 Pro on my PC along side with my Windows XP Home OS. However, I need to unistalled it due to the fact that I need hard drive space. In my first attemp I figure I would just delete the entire partion were Suse was in using my Partition Magic. On the restart a command promp came up similar to the DOS one but this one said "grub>". I'm assuming this is the command promp for the Linux (by the way I'm a Linux newbie). So I could not get my windows to start up.

But if I reinstall Suse then I can go into my windows system. What do I do? Does anyone out there know how to unistall Suse? I heard that maybe by using a start up disk I might be able to fix it. But this solution was on a computer with Windows 98se. And I wasn't ever sure how they fix it.

Any boot loader can't be just removed, because there must be some bootloader for the machine to work. So, instead of removing grub, what you need to do is overwrite it with xp bootloader.

You can't do what Alex said, cause the win is XP, not 98. Instead, use the XP install cd and look for a program called something like "fixmbr" or "fixboot". Its a console app (yes, xp has console apps!) designed to fix your master boot record. In win2k (close relative to xp) it's "fixmbr".
Run the xp install cd, choose the recovery console, log into your installation (it will prompt you for the admin password) and run fixmbr (or whatever one you have). It will tell you that the mbr is quite unusual and ask if you wanna overwrite it, with a few recommendations. Just let it go overwrite grub. Then reboot and xp will load without the grub prompt.

While we are jhere I had the same problem and just reformatted but I thought of doing this but I have no admin password... When I installed xp it never asked me for any password so where should I find that password? I was wondering this since a long time and I really can't seem to find this password...

Try to look for it, there's the control panel, admin section... It won't show you the current one, but maybe you can reset it.

It's weird cause they never asked me for one...

Re: Unistalling SuSE 9.0 from Windows XP PC

It's ok I figure out how to fix it. I downloaded the a pice of software from the Microsoft web site that would allow me to setup a few floppy disks in to bootable floopys for Window XP Home. Then I restarted my computer with one of the floppies inside. Then I choose to fix part of my system and I typed "fixmbr". Then I just deleted the partition that had Linux. That was all

Thanks...

Alex,
You told the guy to use 98 tools, instead of XPīs. If he had the original xpīs cds, heīd better use it.
Thatīs all.

AlexCryer,

I was just looken for a way to do something with linux, and saw your post, nothing has done anything worng here but you guy, I see nothing worng with anyone els post. No, you can't use fdisk to put a xp boot loader on, fdisk was removed after SE, you have to use the XP repare tool, that bruno buys said to use.

And your comment about who asked you anyway, well he ask everyone, not just you this is a open pub forums were everyone helps everyone, not you try to help everyone, he just posted one more way to do it.

Looks like you have your mom's hand up your ass or something kid, becouse I only read 3 of your post and I dont like you. IF this was my forums your would of been baned after the first.

It does not make you a man by see how tuff you can get or be, you trying to make someone els look like there small. It just makes you look like your a small lil kid.

You sound like your one of them 13 year old punk kids who think they rule the world. I hate 13 year olds becouse there new at beening a teen and they think they have to act bad ass for some fucken reason, and they get the world pissed off at them.

I know I'm not alone on this but, AlexCryer your the ture ass with the bad attitude. Try jacken off that helps alot of guys who can't get a girl....
