Uninstalling packages (built from scratch)

Hello,
I want to uninstall a package that was built from scratch :
./configure
make
make install

I have read that "make uninstall" would do the trick. However when I run this comand. I get an error, something like "target not found"

I have been able to install ok, but now I would like learn how to unistall.

I relatively new guy to Linux and I would greatly appreciate the help.

If you kept the directory where you untarred the original tarball from that directory you can run make uninstall. Otherwise you're just going to have to manually delete the files.

This might be a dumb question.

But how exactly do you manually uninstall?

I guess you mean "rm" files and folders .... from where? What are the typical places where I should look.

I run RH9.

Please advise
