Uninstall apache from the fedora core 2 machine

Hi Dear all

can you do a little favour for me. i used the following command to
rm -rf /usr/local/apache2
uninstalled apache from my fedora 2 machine

after executing that command I browse to http://localhost and see that the Apache is uninstalled

but i get It works indicating that apache or httpd still running in my machine

then i typed
ps -ef | grep httpd

and got the following

root 5403 5379 0 15:05 pts/1 00:00:00 grep httpd

i think this mean apache is still runing on my computer .i tried to installed apache in serveral times but it didnt work

pls help me to solve this problem

The correct way of removing a binary package installation is using the tools such as dpkg for Ubuntu to remove them.

Quote:
root 5403 5379 0 15:05 pts/1 00:00:00 grep httpd
The above line does not imply that Apache/httpd daemon is running but it is the 'grep' process which also shows up in the list of processes.

Try this one,

ps aux | grep [h]ttpd

or

lsof -i :80

One way to stop and uninstall apache is
Code:
#/usr/local/apache2/bin/apachectl stop
After that navigate to the directory where you installed apache from and do
Code:
#make uninstall
Fedora Core 3 is old and unsupported, so if its an option, try a newer distro like Fedora 8 which has the latest versions of apache, php and mysql. If you still want to use FC3, you can compile apache, php and mysql using the instructions available here. The instructions are for older releases, but should work fine on newer releases.
