unable to video conference with empathy/pidgin

hi, i have fedora 23 live-usb running on one laptop and fc-23 running on another. i login to my gmail account on empathy on my laptop and created a dummy gmail account on the live-usb. when i try to initiate a call on my laptop i hear a buzz for one second (the webcam light will come on and off) then nothing happens. when i initiate a call from my live-usb the laptop will ring; i select answer video call but nothing pops up on the laptop and the live-usb will say disconnected.

i am unable to initiate a call on either using pidgin. texting works fine on both empathy and pidgin just not audio or video calling.

thanks,

Hi:

Was Pidgin working beforehand?

Maybe your mising H264 cocdecs, gst-plugins-bad and some gst-ffmpeg pkg's?

https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/10093
https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Using

Check in on the audio and video options they are disabled?

Pidgin is limited to Unix-like platforms and the XMPP protocol (including GoogleTalk).
Voice and Video:

If you still have trouble with Pidgin maybe try 'Cheese' and see if that works for you. (just an idea)

HTH

i never tried it before yesterday.

i am able to see the webcam using cheese.

i tried using ekiga (without google talk) and similar results. but this time i am able to im the laptop but i am not able to respond to the live-usb.

something tells me that the live-usb has some sort of firewall. i tried:
Code:
sudo systemctl stop firewalld
but no change. i dont see any selinux pop-ups... stumped.

Since you don't see any SElinux pops ups than disabeling SElinux might prove as useful. (might)
Can't hurt to try if not than you know it's not that.

https://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5...e-disable.html

Maybe try both of these cmd's-
Code:
# systemctl disable firewalld # systemctl stop firewalld
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US...firewalld.html

Double check that Pidgin is configured correctly? (as I'm sure you probably have, wouldn't hurt to check)
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US...ns-Pidgin.html

I'm not sure what else it could be.
Maybe other members will know and chime in.

If I find anything worthy I'll post it for you.

Any luck since last you posted?

This Fedora Codecs might come in handy. Maybe installed it if it's not already.
