Unable to hear mp3 cd's...

greetings !

I think I'm missing something in here or doing something silly.

I've Linux Mandrake 8.1 and trying to play CD's thro' CD-player and XMMS.

I mounted the CD thro' Kwikdisk - no errors.
Able to see the files( thro' file-manager/shell )
Audio-CD plays well
On the same drive if I put my mp3 CD I don't hear a peep !

can someone tell me why ?

-thanks-
shankar.

weird things are happening.

If I login as KDE and mount the drives( 2 - CDROM and CDRW ), I'm able to play/hear from both the drives.

If I log in an ordinary user( who was created during the installation process ), I'm able to hear only from the audio-CD's... and NOT from the mp3 CD. It keeps playing something but I don't hear anything.

Also, even if I go to /mnt/cdrom2 and give eject it ejects /mnt/cdrom... how come ? with /mnt/cdrom2 completely stuck and not able to pull the tray out, when I press the eject button in the drive !...

-thanks-
shankar.
