Ugly fonts when logged in as normal user

For most programs in KDE, the fonts look terrible when I am logged in as a normal user. If su to root, the fonts look much better and smoother (but still has some ugly brownish tinting on what should be plain black text). How do I get my fonts to look like they do as root?

Have you got the TrueType fonts installed?

They look ugly in linux :D

Well they look much smoother while I am logged in as root (but it comes with strange brownish bandings), and I am wondering if its some permission thing I need to set. Any suggestions for nice fonts I could download for Linux?
