Question udftools and Iomega REV drive (USB)

Hello

I have an Iomega REV drive (usb) which I can write to (as instructed by Iomega) if I use a UDF file system. To create this system I had to install udftools (see sourceforge). It all works ok, but I have a couple of questions:

1.
How can I tell what file system is on a device *before* mounting it (it won't mount unless the UDF file system has been created).

2.
The command /usr/local/bin/cdrwtool -d /dev/scd0 -i returns this info (along with other stuff):

using device /dev/scd0
1344KB internal buffer
setting write speed to 12x

Does this mean I can only write to the device (effectively a hard disk) at 12x CD speed?

Many thanks,
Steve
