Ubuntu install freezing

I have downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 (in fact have done so three times) and all my attempts at installing the software have resulted the install freezing. I have got as far (once) as downloading 15 of 45 files. I have a Fedora disk that I install after these problems and it installs with no trouble. I have the book and disk for 12.04 coming next week, will that disk make a difference?? or should I look at another software. I am thinking of Fedora 15 as there is a book for that on the market.

Are you talking about installing software after the OS is installed, or during the installation?
If so, are you using the minimal CD or the netinstall or the standard image?
Check the md5sum of the ISO image you downloaded (before you burn it to a CD) Info here.
