Ubuntu -- Help with .RAR


I am on ubuntu 6.06 x64

I have downloaded a file that is .rar but i cannot extract it..

I have went in to synaptic and downloaded and installed unrar-free... but it does not work..


Any help on which program will work, and how to install it? this is my first time on ubuntu and linux in about 2 years



also when i use command "sudo" is asked for authentication, but it said failed.. any idea?

Unrar-free should work. The syntax should be something like,
Code:
$unrar x somefile.rar
You can also use a gui such as ARk or File Roller if you have unrar-free installed. Post back any error messages you get.

I found that some rar files wont work unless you use the non-free rar..I had alot of issues until I used the non-free version..

Same here....

Some Windoze computers give the option to automatically RAR a file before e-mailing it. (Don't ask the details). Such files cannot be opened with free-RAR. You have to use nnon-free RAR.
