Ubuntu -> Firefox -> FlashPlugin problems

Hello,
my problem came when I first tried to install Flash Plugin in my Firefox browser. For some network problems, the installation aborted in an innatural way.
Now I have an inconsistency: web pages still display the annoying "missing plugin" message, but when I try to install it again Synaptic tells me that the plugin is already installed.
If i try to first uninstall and then reinstall the plugin it lets me do it, but web pages still don't work

I think the uninstall does not actually remove everything..
Do you have any suggestions, different from reinstalling the whole OS?

I had that problem (when I was using Ubuntu), installing it using Synaptic. So I downloaded it from Adobe, and went through the manual install procedure:

tar -xzvf install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz

cd install_flash_player_9_linux

sudo ./flashplayer-installer

Then just answer the on screen questions, and you should be OK.
