Ubuntu Default Application

I have a distro of Ubuntu 6.06 (I'm using it for my brother as a Windows replacement) and I am having an issue with setting the default application for music and video. Both programs have .desktop entries in /usr/share/applications and when I make the appropriate entries in the default.list and reboot X, but same it doesn't do anything. I go back and look at the default.list file, and all my entries were definitly saved, so I don't know what the problem is. Any ideas?

I don't have an answer, but posts without a reply are automatically bumped twice. If you bump your own post, you lose that.

Additionally, this is more of an Ubuntu specific question, so you may have more luck in the future posting questions of this type in the Ubuntu sub-forum. (Don't double post, though.)

Ahh

Ahh, that bump rule is good to know. Never heard of that. I figured because this is the same method used in Fedora, that it would fall under a general forum. I shall re-post now, thanks
