Ubuntu + avahi-daemon/tools

I recently installed kubuntu 5.10, er, badger I think, anyway,

I'm trying to install the avahi-daemon. The avahi-daemon fails to configure due to a call in the script to dbus-send1, which I don't beleive exists. This gums up the works, and all future packages I try to install don't configure either, despite the fact the avahi daemon seems to be installed and working fine. Has anyone else come across this problem?
