Ubuntu 5.10 preview no screens found error

Hi, I searched the boards and haven't found much help regarding the 'no screens found' error in Ubuntu. I am trying the 5.10 Breezy Preview release. After I get that error at startup, I can edit the xorg.conf and change the 'ati' setting to 'vesa', and then I can boot into the desktop. My only problem is that my resolution won't go any higher than 1280x1024.
I have an ATI Radeon X850XT PE and a Dell 2005FPW (max res. of 1680x1050).
I would like to atleast get the native resolution working, so my screen isn't distorted, but I would like to try and have it use the ati driver instead of the vesa.
I tried dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and that had no effect. I have never used this method to reconfigure so maybe I missed something. Any tips on what to look out for when running the xorg reconfigure also?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

-Steve

I should mention that this was my first post here and I posted in the wrong category. I guess it should be in the Linux Distros under Ubuntu. Sorry. I will pay better attention next time.
Can anyone help me still? Thanks!

Did you try to change under Screens1 or something like that int your xorg.conf file. Try using 8 or 16 this might solve your problem. I'm not sure if you can use xorgconfig in Ubunto i know it works in Slackware. In there you can change your monitors resolution. Make sure you save it at the end to the xorg.conf file.
Let me know
