Smile Ubuntu 14.04 unable to set Xorg cursor theme using update-alternatives

Hi friends,
I'm trying to set a custom mouse cursor theme for my linux desktop.
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 and Gnome Shell 3.12.2.
I've installed chameleon cursor theme and would like to set this for every gui applications.
Now I've set chameleon by Gnome tweak tool but only gtk applications shown this theme.

So, googling I've found that is possible to set globally a specific cursor theme using:

Code:
sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme
But unfortunately using this approach doesn't change anything: I can run "update-alternatives" and apparently set a specific cursor theme, but in reality, no changes are made.

I've try to reinstall each cursor theme, but nothing!

Have you any other idea? :-)

many thanks!!
