U know the old saying " To assume is to make (Yast) out of you and me"

I am currently running suse 9.2 and kaffeine, xine and totem are all... ( I just installed one after the other thinking it would finally work:tisk: )... running sort of glitchy (meaning that the video is a little jumpy and their is no sound) suse has an install and remove program(YAST)... so I know that I can start fresh after I remove the initial programs. The only thing is that I dont know  if I should remove just the ones that came with the distro, the ones I installed or all of them and start fresh.

When I acces the install or remove program menu I have the choice to uninstall :
amarok-xine
kaffeine
kdemultimedia3-video-xine
libxine1
totem
xine-devel
xine-extra
xine-lib
xinetd
xine-ui

What do U suggest???? Thanks.

Almost forgot to mention that sound works with every program except kaffeine, xine, and totem.

Totem and Kaffeine are both front ends for xine I believe. No matter which one you launch you are running xine.
What kind of videos are you watching? Streaming like .wmv or .mov? You need to have the win32 codecs installed for those. /usr/local/lib/win32 is where apps look for those unless you have compiled or specified differently. I don't know if SuSE has those in .rpm or not.

Totem makes a hidden folder in your /home/.gnome2/totem where you can put them and totem will play the videos.
You can get them here.

Or are you talking about another problem.

By the way, Mplayer is outstanding in what it will play and do. You can save a stream to HD. You can adjust speed, picture, size while keeping correct aspect.

I install my codecs to /usr/lib/win32 and not /usr/local/lib/win32 and all my players use them and play fine. Not sure as far as totem being a front end to xine.See there is totem and there is xine-totem.I remove totem and install xine-totem and have much better luck.Xine-totem is front end but think plain totem works on its own with no attachment to xine.

I mainly stick to just watching dvd's, and whenever I try to play one their is no sound and the video is a little jumpy like their is something wrong with the rate of frames its receiving.

BTW thanx for the info.
