TV Capture HVR-1950 drivers? Software?

HVR on Ubuntu 9.10 the capture card is streaming data in on /dev/video0 however nothing I've tried seems to be able to open the device, so far MythTV, tvtime, totem movie player, and others. The drivers in /lib/firmware appear to be the ones specified for this usb attached device.

lsmod seems to list a bunch of the relevant modules.

There's something on the forums about "recompiling the driver" - anyone have any instructions on how to do that?

Note, no usb device is shown on /media however if I do cat /dev/video0 > temp.mpeg a file is produced which media player can't display?

Any ideas on things to try?

Thanks, Jerry

/dev/video0 does not output MPEG data but instead raw video.

Under /media no usb device will be shown, since it is not a storage device.

You can use mplayer to view the incoming video stream:
Code:
mplayer -tv driver=v4l2:device=/dev/video0 tv://
If you want mplayer to tune to specific channel type:
Code:
mplayer -tv driver=v4l2:device=/dev/video0:chanlist=<your region>:channel=<channel>:norm=<your tv norm> tv://
Have a look at /usr/share/xawtv/*.list for channel lists.

For DVB try:

Download and install w_scan:
http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/W_scan

Call w_scan to create a channel list.

Code:
mplayer -dvbin card=0:file=<your channel file> dvb://<channel>
