Trying to setup a secure webserver

I'm trying to setup a secure webserver for my webmail server . Right now my webserver is set up as follows:

Regular site mydomain.com
Webmail site mydomain.com/webmail

I want all webmail use to be secure. I would also like to have my webmail set up to be webmail.mydomain.com.

I already have mod_ssl installed, what other steps must I take?
