trying to install qmailtoaster but

I have NO knowledge of linux as such , I have read the stable,txt page on their web site ,then I read the current-install script.

I am really confused here because at the bottom of the notes file it says this in notes
Redhat Enterprise Linux 3.0 is nearly identical to Redhat 9,
use the --with rht90 switch.

What does this mean , where do I use this and how, then in the current install script it says this

DISTRO=mdk102
ARCH=i586
RPMDIR=redhat

that confuses me again , becuase I am using RHEL 3 , yet when I looked on the red hat site all the rpms etc are in a i386 directory if I remember correctly so what do I put in them ?,

DISTRO=rht90
ARCH=i386
RPMDIR=redhat

I find it rather sad that when someone who has no idea other than a book and a set of discs in frint of them tries to load linux for the first time and then install a mail programme or other stuff these people assume they are dealing with either seasoned linux users or people who have knowledge of what , where , when and how !.

I wish they would put an explanation of what these things mean and how to find it out in the files !.

If anyoner can help, I would appreciate it, it has been driving me nuts trying to load up qmail etc.

On who's web site? What are you trying to install? What format is the installer file? Is it a .tar.gz, .rpm, what?

To install a .rpm file, as root
Code:
rpm -ivh NameOfrpm.rpm
Or are you trying to compile from source?

Post the site or link to the application that you are trying to install.
