Trying to install MythTV

Hi. I have compiled Myth TV and have almost got it all set up. Now I have to set up a MySQL database or something.

As root in SuSE 9.1 Pro I ran mysql_install_db which seemed to go fine.

Then, I went into the database directory with the sourcecode and gave it this command.

mysql < mc.sql

and received this error

ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

Does anyone know how to fix this??? Thx, ttyl

Have you started MySQL?

run the command "ps -aux |grep sql"

if it is not running, start it with the command "safe_mysqld" or the Suse equivalent

Must be run as a root user.
