Trying to go 100% ubuntu

I am trying to go 100% ubuntu... but I need to have linux equivalent of the following software before I can decide....

1. Microsoft Windows Media Encoder (A lovely piece of software from Microsoft)
2. Video/Audio capture software for my Pinacle video capture card
3. A good DVD / VCD player
4. A "picasa" photo organiser equivalent
... I know there are plenty but I want best of the breed & to be ubuntu compliant.

Best Regards

Saadat Saeed

1) rhythombox can encode for you so long as you have the appropriate encoders installed.
2) not sure
3) xine is pretty good. i've watched several DVDs on my ubuntu system.
4) i have never used picasa but i have used ACDSEE 2.4x (also known as classic version) and GQ View is similar to Acdsee or even gThumb Image Viewer.

anyway, out of the box ubuntu doesn't provide everything that you're asking for but can be easily done. check out the ubuntu starter guide at:
http://ubuntuguide.org/ one of the things that it will show you is how to add additional repositories which dramatically increases your s/w selection that you could download and install into ubuntu.
