Truecrypt: how to read files in subdirectories on encrypted drive using Linux? [SOLVED]

Hi,

Two machines -- both 64-bit, both the latest Truecrypt installed, one Windows, one Linux.

I created encrypted pendrive (using partition mode; not file-partition on regular partition) with FAT system on it. I copied several files/directories there -- using Windows.

Then I unmounted it, mounted in Linux, but when I checked if everything is OK, it appeared that only the highest level of file hierarchy is visible -- i.e. only files and directories at mount point. Directories are seen as empty (in fact they are NOT empty).

When I unmount pendrive and mount it again on Windows, all files/subdirectories are visible again.

It is not an issue with older version of TC on Linux, because the version is the same.

The question: how to make files in subdirectories visible on Linux?

Just small example (using Linux notation):
Code:

/media/truecrypt1/ -- mount point of encrypted partition
/media/truecrypt1/foo.txt -- visible
/media/truecrypt1/dir/ -- visible
/media/truecrypt1/dir/bar.txt -- this is NOT visible under Linux

I tested this using root account as well, the same problem.

Thanks in advance for any hints.

Cheers,

That's strange. What does the ls -al give out? I'm thinking it could be something related to the filenames. Do they contain any unusual characters or are they unusually long for example?

Thank you for reply.

ls -al gives "normal" output as if all directories were empty. Or in another words -- if my friend would give me this stick, I would believe those directories are empty.

This is not something unusual with filenames. I could see file bar.txt in the main directory, but if I move it to subdirectory (for example "misc"), I would not see it.

I can't think of any reason for this kind of problem. If you don't get any suggestions here you could also try the truecrypt forums. Someone must know why this is happening there.

Thank you. I've waited several days before posting there, because on the user had superficially similar problem. I posted there seconds ago, we will see. I will post here solution if any.

I moved to openSUSE 11.4 now, and TC works as expected.
