Question Trucrypt worked for years, now ioctl failed error

I have been using TruCrypt with Ubuntu and Mint for years. Within the last two months, after an upgrade I began to get this message

when I tried to open a TruCrypt volume: "device-mapper: resume ioctl failed, invalid argument, command failed"

I installed Kubuntu 12.04, but get the same issues. I used KMYMONEY, but want the KMY files encrypted.

Right now I have to use my backup (windows) system. KMYMONEY is flakey on windows, but TruCrypt is rock solid.

I want to get back to using Linux!

A few assumptions:

(1) You are successfully opening the same Truecrypt volume under Windows as the one you cannot now open under Kubuntu 12.04
(2) You reinstalled the latest Truecrypt 7.0a or whichever version on Kubuntu

I would try to diagnose the problem by trying to successfully create and open a new Truecrypt volume under your Kubuntu setup. Then you will know if it's that volume or Truecrypt itself. You also won't risk your data on the existing volume. If you can make a new volume, then you can always transfer the contents from one to the other under Windows; presumably problem solved, if not understood... assuming Windows can open the new volume too. If you can't get Truecrypt to do anything under Kubuntu, your installation is borked by the upgrade somehow... and I suppose you can try a reinstall of Truecrypt, Kubuntu or trying to find the specific problem. I see this problem has appeared sporadically over the last few years in different distros.

Assumptions correct

Your assumptions are correct. I do not remember if the file was originally created on Windows or Linux. I move it back and forth. I tried to create a Truecrypt volume. It failed. Kubuntu was a fresh install. I had been on Linux Mint and it failed after some upgrades.

If someone knows a distro that works with TrueCrypt and KMyMoney, I will try it.

Thanks!

I assume no mods to Mint 13

Based on your posting, I assume there were no mods to Mint 13. I will look at my Mint install media and verify the version I had. If it was Mint 12, I can try Mint 13.

Thanks

Your assumption is correct; it is a standard Mint 13 install, which dual boots with Slackware 14 and WinXPPro; they all access multiple Truecrypt volumes interchangeably. I found KMyMoney suboptimal on Windows and run it under Mint, when I run it, though I have to confess that mostly I end up running Quicken 2013 using CrossOver.

I don't know about that KYmoney app, but TrueCrypt works fine for me on Mint 13 Xfce desktop. I downloaded and manually installed "truecrypt-7.1a-linux-x64.tar.gz" from the TrueCrypt website a long time ago. Never a hitch in its operation for me.
