Trouble with XF86Config File

I installed the latest release of Fedora Core obtained from the RedHat site, a set of 4 cds. The install went smoothly and I set up a dual boot system so I could start the machine on Windows XP or Linux. However, when I booted on Linux, it didn't start the X server, and complained about the XF86Config file. Here's the message I got regarding the "Keyboard" section of the file-

"Meta is not a valid keyword in this section"
(EE) Problem parsing the config file
(EE) Error parsing the config file
Fatal server error
no screens found

I looked at the relevant line(s) in the XF86Config file. They are as follows-

LeftAlt Meta
RightAlt Meta
ScrollLock Compose
RightCtl Control

So right now I have no gui, only command line... not a good situation. No Internet etc. etc.

Any help will be appreciated.

P.S. I am a newbie.

well...first of all, this question doesn't belong into this forum but let's get into the problem.

first try to uncomment the lines that you suspect to cause the problem. if X starts, try modifying the lines until you'll find something that works...in my config, I've got things like:

# Option "LeftAlt" "Meta"

(commented, yes) so they're in "" -marks and so on. try that too..

and you DO have internet and stuff linux is the best when it's console, in my opinion - fast, working, more stable and so on. you can listen to music (mpg123, mpg321, ogg123 and so on), browse the net (links, lynx), connect to it (wvdial, pon) ....you really can't say you can't do something I guess about the only thing console cannot do is image editing... heh

Sorry, just realized I posted my question in the wrong forum. And thanks for your suggestions. I realize the internet can be accessed without a gui, but just don't know which buttons to push.... Now that you have brought it up, I would like to try it. Can you tell me how ?

Thanks.

accessing internet depends on what apps you use, and if you have a modem or isdn or adsl and so on...

-with a modem, I suggest wvdial as the app that connects to net
-with adsl, there's rp-pppoe that should work on most cases I guess

after you've got the apps, configured them (adsl-setup or wvdialconf on those) and launched and are connected to net, use some of these:

-lynx or links for webbrowsing - links handles frames too
-pine for email
-irssi for irc
etc.etc..

it's really simple the "hardest" part is to configure your connection, but tools like wvdialconf or adsl-setup automate it quite nicely..
