trouble with NFS-server on debian

Im using the nfs-kernel-server package on deb 2.2
i have two drives mounted to /hole/hdb and /hole/hdd
I then have the following in /etc/exports

/hole 192.168.1.0/24(rw,sync)

when i mount /hole from another machine at 192.168.1.13, it mounts but all i can see is the top level dir, /hole/hdb and /hole/hdd are now visible but seemingly empty.
I've never had a problem with NFS before what is a likely source of the problem?
thanks

I've run into this problem when mounting an ISO image locally, then mounting it remotely via NFS when doing NFS installs.

This is from the NFS-HOWTO:
Quote:

You may have exported the file system on the server before you mounted it there, in which case NFS is exporting the underlying mount point (if so then you need to restart NFS on the server).
Hope that helps,
Lyle.
