trouble with human interface devices during install
 

I have just partitioned for a dual boot system ( xp pro and red hat 7.3) after initially hitting enter to start the install my keyboard turns off and I cannot type in a root password, this keeps me from being able to complete the install, I tried to boot in "linux noprobe" but the same trouble occurs.
both my mouse and keyboard are USB devices

is anyone familiar with this problem?
help would be greatly appreciated

As a start, try disconnecting one different device before each install attempt to try and isolate which device is not recognized.

Also you could check with the Red Hat support site to see what devices are supported on 7.3.

If you have a serial or ps/2 mouse and/or keyboard handy you could try using them for the install. It is possible that a device does not work on the install system but you could include the support on the installed system.

I was able to borrow a ps/2 keyboard from work to do the install, and the keyboard worked fine throughout the installation...
I now have a dual boot system :)

the only thing is, now I have to use a ps/2 keyboard for Linux. My USB keyboard works fine for the windows OS though, ...guess I'll get rid of the USB, it's funny though because my mouse is USB and it works on the Linux ... oh well, tired of messing with it

During the install Red Hat correctly detected what keyboard and mouse were attached and configured Linux for those two devices.

Now, if you want, you can change Linux to use your USB keyboard.
On Red Hat this may be as simple as changing keyboards and then booting, but I am not sure about that.

I use mandrake 9.1 and it picked up my USB keyboard and mouse nicely.
