Trouble opening index.php file to install eZ publish

In trying to set up eZ publish I am supposed to access the wizard by trying to open the index.php file.

When I try to access the index.php file from a command line, I get a "permission denied" message. This is true even if I have logged into the root directory.

If I try to open it with Konquerer I get "The file or folder file:/opt/ezpublish/sites/default/ezpublish-3.4.2/index.php%0A does not exist." (It adds that %0A for some reason).

What must I do to open this file?

Are you trying to open this in your browser as a 'file://blahblah' or as 'http://blahblah'

PHP, being a Hypertext Pre Processor, need to be served from an httpd server, not just opened up as a file.

Yes, I now think that is the problem. I thought I had installed mysql, but that process seemed to have failed. I went back and tried to re-install it, and got an install-recursive , Error One message. that seems to suggest that the mysql did not install. Seems like that is zeoing in on the difficulty. Now my problem is that I don't know how to get the mysql to install right.
