Question Trouble installing/configuring wine and freetype

I installed the Codeweavers wine rpm (codeweavers-wine-20020411-6.i386.rpm) according to the instructions I was able to find. Executing "wine notepad.exe" resulted in a message saying I needed a TrueType font engine and recommended www.freetype.org. I downloaded, built and installed the latest freetype2. I'm getting the following message when I run it:

Quote:
[jerry@oahu windows]$ !658
wine write.exe
Invoking /opt/wine/bin/wine.bin write.exe ...
Wine cannot find the FreeType font library. To enable Wine to
use TrueType fonts please install a version of FreeType greater than
or equal to 2.0.5.
http://www.freetype.org
Could not load graphics driver 'x11drv'
Wine failed with return code 139
/usr/bin/wine: wait: pid 1178 is not a child of this shell
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
What am I missing? I've installed the windows fonts to the XFree86 setup according to instructions I found posted by Aussie. My windows partition is properly mounted read/write. What can I do to further debug this?

I've read all the relevant documentation I can find, I've searched the wine and freetype websites, and I've searched this forum. Can't find a reference to problem I'm seeing. It has to be soomething basic to the setup or configuration that I'm missing I think. Any help is appreciated!

I got error messages when I tried to use wine to run a program from the command line. I then opened up a file manager and navigated to notepad.exe and I clicked on it and it ran. If I remember, it seems that I also got the message about the true type font in a dialog box. I can't remember if it was telling me that it was trying to run the program and complaining about the fonts at the same time. Try running it from a file manager.

<Edit> I just noticed that you are trying to use codeweavers-wine-20020411-6.i386.rpm rpm. I tried it and it wouldn't work. I went back to codeweavers-wine-20010626-4.i386.rpm.</Edit>
