Question Troble with rpm files

Specs:
Mandrake 8.1
AMD K6-2 450

I'm having a frustrating time with RPM. Every time I use the the Package Manager it returns an error (which is not specified) and fails.

Is this common or do I need to get a newer RPM.? I'm using version 4.0.3 which came with Mandrake 8.1

Try installing the rpm from the comand line with "rpm -Ivh <package name>.rpm".
