Tring to install KDE

Hi,

I have slackware 9 installed on my computer, I didnt bother to install the gui becuse I mainly use it for a server. I am using the kernel version 2.4.21 with the mppe and opensll patch which I downloaded from kernel.org. I really do not want to reinstall slackware. I tried to install kde and xfree86 from the cdrom. Then rean the config program to select kde as my default gui and anoher one which asked my more specific things about my system.

When I try and run startx this is the message I get:

If you had installed X with the rest of the system it would have taken you to a setup screen. Since your installing the packages later it doesn't.

Try
XF86Setup (case is important)

Can you post /var/log/XFree86.0.log file?

dude when it says no screens found it's coz your video card didn't get set up right.. even if just X worked and your desktop manager didn't it would at least take you to a grey screen with an X as a mouse cursor... (ctrl + alt + bckspc to get out btw) try running xf86config again using the generic driver for your card.. like if it's an atu rage 3d pro just try using ati rage or just ati.. for the first time just set everythng very basic with a 640x480 monitor & low color depth & go up from there :)

btw if even the generic nvidia driver doesn't work for your card (i see that in your log).. then try just generic unlisted VGA or vesa..
