transkode 0.6b2, amarok 1.4.1, faac 1.25 -> ipod. Where are the files going?

Hi all.

I'm trying to use amarok 1.4.1 to transfer some vorbis files to my ipod via transkode 0.6b2. By default transkode uses oggdec/faac to transcode files to m4a. Both these components work fine outside transkode. When I hit the Transfer button in amarok oggdec, then faac work for a while but the file doesn't get transferred to the device. Existing mp3/m4a/mp4 files are copied directly to the ipod with no problems so I'm guessing libgpod isn't the issue and write permissions are fine.

One possible explanation is a little strangeness with faac and libmp4v2. When compiling faac 1.25 (no fun at all - the only tarball I found was full of DOS format files) I issue:

$ ./configure --with-mp4v2

...and see the following in the output:

checking whether MP4Create is declared... yes
checking for MP4MetadataDelete in -lmp4v2... yes
checking whether MP4MetadataDelete is declared... yes
checking for MP4MetadataDelete in -lmp4v2... (cached) yes
configure: *** Building with external mp4v2 ***

...and libmp4v2 is installed but when I run faac --help I see this:

MP4 specific options:
MP4 support unavailable.

It's probable that this is the cause of my amarok woes but if anyone has another suggestion I'm all ears. I'd also like to solve this faac issue if anyone has any ideas...

Distro: Slackware 10.2 with linux 2.6.17.11.

Solved:

It seems the problem was with faac - it didn't seem to compile properly against the mpeg4ip libraries I had installed - I removed that package and built in internal mp4 support and all is well.

I'll leave this post here in case someone finds the info useful. I can post a link to my faac 1.25 Slackware package if anyone wants it.
