Hello,

2 days ago, I was updating some packages in my OpenSuSE 11.0 install, including Totem.

After updating, I had several problems with Totem, most of which I was able to solve.

However, this one is leaving me scratching my head -- I have no audio.

Audio works fine in VLC, (S)Mplayer, etc. I found several threads on how to fix various issues with Totem -- unfortunately though, none of these seemed to resolve this issue for me.

Totem version is 2.22.0, which appears to be the most recent stable version.

When I launch Totem from the command prompt, I get the following:

** (totem:10854): WARNING **: Failed to create dbus proxy for org.gnome.SettingsDaemon: Could not get owner of name 'org.gnome.SettingsDaemon': no such name

Examples of things that I've checked:
* GStream plugs (Good, bad, ugly) from Packman
* Setting audio in Mplayer & VLC to use ALSA
* Uninstall PulseAudio plugin

I'm using KDE version 3.59

As I mentioned, this did work until I started updating packages on my system... I guess what they say is true... if it ain't broken...

Any help is appreciated

When i was installing alsa i had similar prob.
it ended up being to un-mute tha damn alsa channels by running alsamixer.
or maybe u need to run alsaconf first to check if it detects hardware.

Thanks for the reply.

No dice on your solution, however...

I find it very frustrating that I cannot find a movie player that will play most of the videos that I have, and DVDs, smoothly (I'm using a 10-year old P2). Totem was the only solution that worked "properly" for me, but now with no audio, it is useless.

My next favorite option is KMplayer, but I'm having problems playing DVDs with it (it works when it wants to)...

Back to the drawing board...
