totem cant play avi

totem won't play avi files on my laptop ubuntu install.
i have every possible codec in /usr/lib/win32 but totem still can't find it...

vlc however plays the file.
what do i have to do to make it also work for totem?

i know i can just watch it with vlc but i'm curious

this is the error message:

There were no decoders found to handle the stream, you might need to install the corresponding plugins

vlc however can play it
