ive set up Tor and Privoxy with the Torbutton extension for firefox, and got everything to work fine....EXCEPT one thing... The button seems to operate backwards... when i Enable Torbutton, Tor is actually disabled... and when I disable the Torbutton, it is enabled..... ive tried everything and searched around and come up with nothing......anybody else had this problem????

I've just glanced at the Torbutton design document and discovered that Torbutton is much more involved than I suspected. I am now more doubtful about what I am about to suggest, but since nobody else has come up with anything ...

One of the things I believe Torbuton does is toggle the proxy setting (Settings -> Advanced -> Network -> Settings) between Direct Connection to the Internet and Manual proxy configuration. So the first thing I would suggest is simply manually toggling that yourself (from the Settings dialog) and see if that brings things into sync. If not, you might try uninstalling Torbutton, making sure proxy setting is Direct Connection to the Internet and then reinstalling Torbutton.

Good luck.
