Tool for Video Catching

I'm interested in a tool which enables me to catch and locally store video streams which are triggered via browser (http) on some video showing sites (not normally providing a download option). Is there anything available you can recommend?

For instance it would be nice to be able to store TV cuts.

I've used download helper as an add-on to Firefox. I haven't yet found a case where it can't download and save video embedded in a web page.

there is a firefox plugin to DL flash video
but check with YOUR country's law
it might not be legal in Germany
