tomcat question

Hi,

Very New 2 Linux.

Have an Dell Dimension running SuSE 7.3
Just installed j2re1.4.1 & j2sdk 1.4.1 successfully

Have Tomcat 4.0.6 BIN files on my linux machine.

My Questions

1. I don't know where and what to set regarding paths and variables, what the procedure?
2. I have 12 files that I downloaded for tomcat and stuck them in a DIR, but what file installs (exe/zip/asc/gz)?

Looking 4 any help or documentation.

Read the existing listings here, the sun.java info & the .txt files from apache.

Thanks.

I'm not to familiar with Tomcat but what were the 12 files that you downloaded? What were there extensions (i.e. .tar, .gz. ,.zip, etc.)

Are all these 12 files required to install Tomcat?

dead bug - I will give it a shot

Crashed - The files I DL were for the binary distribution of linux, not the source. Of the 12 files, I have exe, exe.asc, tar.gz, tar.gz.asc, zip, zip.asc, extensions.

This is where I DL tomcat files from

http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/jak...se/v4.0.6/bin/

Thanks.

Dead bug, I see the point of the link you sent but with 12 files of multiple extensions I need someting less generic for my one track mind.

Before I can install tomcat I thinnk I need to set the paths and variables for the j2re & j2sdk I have installed?

Anyone else been thru this?

You can set the path to java by doing:

export PATH=$PATH:/path/to/j2re

I'm still puzzled as to why Tomcat requires 12 files in different formats.

Just for a reference to you all -

I downloaded jakarta-tomcat-4.0.6-src.tar.gz from the /src folder on the appropriate release/version.

Unzipped and installed it, seems to be ok.

Now 4 my next hurdle (Will be posted as "Tomcat Startup")
