The Tomcat installation directory is not correct. It does not point to a valid Tomcat installation.

Are you sure your tomcat base directory is usr/share/tomcat5 . My friends use eclipse 3.1 and they said that it supports tomcat 5.5 .

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but has anyone found a soloution to it?

I try to add an server runtime environment to Eclipse WTP under Window -> Preferences -> Server -> Installed Runtimes -> Add... This gives me this window.

http://home.hia.no/~froden04/server-env1.jpg

I select Tomcat 5, which is the one I have installed and click Next. The problem is, I can't figure out what to put in the «Tomcat installation directory».

Everything I've tried just gives me the same message.

Thanks for your reply, os2.
I found a fix here that seems to work: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=110715

I discovered, that the file "common/lib/servlet-api.jar" doesn't exist in my
installation (from a rpm shipped with the distribution), neither as a real file
nor as a link (instead a link named "[servletapi5].jar" exists). I created a
symbolic link servlet-api.jar->[servletapi5].jar and it worked.
