I downloaded timidity sources from
http://timidity.sourceforge.net and then messed around a bit with the configure script.
type
./configure --help
in the sources folder, it will show you what configuration options are available.
Depending on what you need timidity for, you will want to enable different things.
In my case I only need it as a virtual MIDI port and I'm using alsa, so I enabled --enable-alsa to enable the alsa server inteface, and --enable-sound=alsa to enable output on the alsa server.
So my configuration line looked like:
./configure --enable-alsa --enable-sound=alsa
there are a number of interfaces available, some of them are graphic and allow you to use timidity a midi player (just like KMid or similar programs)
Then after the usual make and make install you have to launch timidity telling it wich interface and outputs to use:
timidity -iA -Os
launches the program as an alsa midi sequencer (-iA) outputting audio on alsa (-Os).
This was for my system, anyway
./configure --help
and
man timidity
have all the informations you need.
I didn't make a new slack package for this because i don't know how to do it :P
